My work with Ike & Tina Turner
|
I had the privilege of working with Ike & Tina Turner when they first came to town with the Ike &Tina Turner Revue. This was in the late 50's. We were at a nite club in San Pedro, CA called "The Marine Room". I believe I was on guitar with the Jackie Kelso Orchestra. We opened the show and then the introduced the Ike & Tina Turner Review. After that , we were mesmurized by what we saw. There was so much excitement generated by Ike, his band, Tina and the Ikettes that we never got back on the stand. They finished the evening and we enjoyed the show more than the clientele who paid to see the show. I next worked with them at the Club Oasis in Los Angeles. This club was owned by Johnny Otis. I was guitarist with his band. The show was as exciting as the first time in San Pedre. 310.638.9920 |

I did an album with Ike & Tina in the mid-sixties. I don't remember the name of the album, but one song on the album was entitled "You Can't Miss Nothing That You Never Had". It opened with a young Latina who spoke the title words in Spanish. Then Tina starts the song in English and Spanish. I will try to find it and post it on my "Artists" page.
